Throughput at the port of Rotterdam in the first quarter rose 14% on the same period last year, but still lags behind the 2008 total.

The port said container volumes were up 16% year-on-year to 2.6 million teu, while ro-ro, mainly traffic going to or from the UK, grew 8% to reach 4 million tonnes.
