officially opened the first semi-automated container terminal in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, at the Spanish port of Algeciras.
The Total Terminal International Algeciras (TTIA) was formally opened by the Prince of Asturias, Prince Phillip of Bourbon, and the Chairwoman of Hanjin Shipping, Eun Young Choi.
The terminal has two quay lines of 550 metres and 650 metres, eight ship-to-shore cranes, 32 automatic-stacking cranes and 20 shuttle-carriers.
Fellow CKYH Alliance lines UASC, X-Press, Boluda and Hapag-Lloyd have began regular port calls.
Hanjin said that within a few weeks of operations commencing, all the company's forecasts had been fulfilled and it was pleasantly surprised by the high level of demand.
In only two months, the terminal has reached 47% of total operational status and is expected to be fully operational by October |
