The active global containership fleet is expected to grow by 12% by the end of the year and by 25% by the end of 2011, according to research by container leasing firm SeaAxis.

Speaking at Containerisation International's Global Liner Shipping Conference, SeaAxis VP Philippe Hoelinger said the current global fleet stood at 13 million teu, of which 1.6 million teu was was laid-up.
