Work on the Vizhinjam International Container Transhipment Terminal will begin by December, according to Indian Minister for Ports M. Vijayakumar, reported The Hindu.
Vijayakumar said the government had issued notification for acquiring 87 acres of land for creating infrastructure as envisaged in the revamped project proposal. The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) had completed the tender formalities for creating water supply infrastructure and the government had entrusted with the Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) the task of preparing the rail connectivity plan. The government had also requested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for assistance for road development in the area and would identify the agency that would do the environment impact study relating to the project soon, he said.
