Hanjin Shipping, South Korea's largest shipper, will operate two additional terminal facilities at the Taiwanese port of Kaohsiung starting in May.
Hanjin Pacific, a terminal business unit of Hanjin Shipping, has agreed to take over two berths of the Taiwanese port operated by APM Terminals, the world's number one terminal operating company under Denmark-based AP Moller-Maersk Group.
Hanjin, which has been operating a berth at the port of Kaohsiung, is expected to more than triple its annual container handling capacity at the port to 1.5 million TEUs as the carrier combines the three facilities into its operations.
The takeover will enable Hanjin's terminal at Kaohsiung to serve container ships with a capacity of 10,000 TEUs or more.
The South Korean shipping line currently operates five terminal facilities domestically and 12 overseas. |
