The Orissa Commerce and Transport Minister, Mr Sanjib Sahu, informed the state Assembly that Dhamra port (India) will become operational in a month.
According to Exim News Service, the state government had signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with several companies for setting up 14 ports in the state, he revealed.
The state government would thoroughly evaluate Posco's detailed project report (DPR) for a port before recommending it for clearance by the Union government, he assured.
The state government was aware of the concerns of Paradip Port Trust (PPT) and the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways over Posco's plan to set up the port at Jatadhari in Jagatsinghpur district.
This is because the proposed port was barely 12 km from Paradip Port, he added
