The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services in partnership with oil exploration major ONGC, is developing an oil spill trajectory modeling that will help track the movement of oil spills in the high seas and thus facilitate quicker response to mitigate such environment hazards.
Mr SC Shenoi director of INCOIS under the Ministry of Earth Sciences said that "We will take between six months and a year to develop the modeling based on wind direction, sea current and other oceanographic data, as also the different characteristics of oil spills."
INCOIS held a meeting with its different users, including ONGC, the Gujarat Maritime Board, Suzlon, the Indian Navy, the Coast Guard, the office of the DG-Shipping and fishermen representatives. |
